Since 2019, DPM has been operating the Ada Tepe open pit, the first greenfield mining project in Bulgaria in 40 years.
In-line with DPM's commitment to invest in regional development and promote well-being not only during the life of the mine but beyond it, DPM has outlined, in collaboration with Krumovgrad community members, a plan for the sustainable development of the municipality following the closure and rehabilitation of the mine.

A New Chapter for Ada Tepe
After a series of discussions with local residents, we developed a Closure Plan for Ada Tepe that is unique in Bulgaria. The purpose of the plan is to create as many sustainable development opportunities as possible, return the footprint of the Ada Tepe mine to the Natura 2000 protected area, and to do so in a way that will support the continued interaction of people and biodiversity.
DPM is the owner of the land of the Ada Tepe mine. After closure, DPM will hand over the land to the Krumovgrad Municipality together with the available electrical and water management infrastructure and the tourism, sports and recreation areas.
In addition to these areas, DPM will donate the former process plant administration facility to the municipality to be repurposed into an education centre.
We are executing our plans in-line with our values, and with a commitment to meet the highest standards for mine closure globally.

Our Commitment
With commitment and care, we have built up cooperation with the local authorities and a dialogue with stakeholders.
Social Licence
Having earned a social licence, we have developed one of the most advanced mining operations today.
Environment
Through the work of hundreds of Bulgarian and international professionals we have successfully operated Ada Tepe in harmony with the environment.
A Sustainable Future
We are committed to maintaining an open dialogue about our intentions. DPM will conduct closure activities in support of our vision for a sustainable future for the region.

“Our business is one of the few with a clear beginning and end. With the Ada Tepe mine, we saw an opportunity to change perceptions of the mining business by combining advanced technology with care for people and nature. We are leaving Krumovgrad, but we believe that we are leaving a future behind us. Everything we have achieved shows that when business and the community work together, they can bring about positive change.”

ADA TEPE CLOSURE MISSION
We aim to restore Ada Tepe mine site safely and responsibly, transforming the land for future sustainable uses that create long-term value for local communities and nature - so we can grow and thrive together.
ADA TEPE CLOSURE VISION
Beyond mine closure, we plan to leave behind a rehabilitated environment, enhanced public infrastructure, and multiple opportunities for a thriving community.
